Seefeld Beds

The Seefeld Beds are certainly not known by the greater population and even its fossil star, Austriadactylus is not the first prehistoric creature that pops into many people's minds. Despite this, the Seefeld has revealed a diverse Triassic ecosystem dating back to the Norian Stage. This is during the Late Triassic, roughly 215 million years ago. The flora here belongs to a series of fossil floras known as the "Rhaet-Kauper". These floras span a wide area stretching from the German basin to the Donbass to the Urals. Seefeld contains conifers for the most part, including fairly common and well-known fossil conifers like Brachyphyllum. In fact, more than 90% of all floras here are conifers. Voltzia also makes up a big part of this flora.
