Not the best-known of all rock formations but certainly provided a bonus with a beautiful and bizarre early pterosaur.

Description

The Kössen Formation is a Late Triassic rock formation in Germany and parts of the Swiss Alps. It is composed mainly of limestone and preserves bones of the primitive pterosaur Caviramus.
