Goio-Ere Formation

Geological Age

Late Cretaceous

The Brazilian deserts were filled with odd little pterosaurs. They lived together and died together among vast and desolate dunes.

Description

This is a rock formation of uncertain age, probably about 88 or 85 million years old. It preserves a dry paleoenvironment in Brazil. A large flock of the pterosaur Caiuajara is the most important discovery from this area. This genus is also the youngest genus of tapejarid, existing around twenty million years after Tapejara itself. Another animal from this area is the small primitive iguanian lizard Gueragama.
